  • APPRISE: Volunteers serve as Medicare consultants for eligible adults (disabled or age 65 and older). Full training and support are provided by our expert staff.
  • Volunteer Caregiver Assistance: Volunteers provide non-medical assistance, such as friendly visiting or a ride to doctor appointments, to seniors who are still living in their homes. Many seniors in your neighborhood, local congregation, and community are in great need of these small acts of care.
  • Safety for Seniors: Safety for Seniors volunteers are trained to provide in-home safety checks for local seniors. Volunteers can serve as little as one time or on a regular basis.
  • Seasonal Projects: These volunteer opportunities are perfect outdoor volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups. We are looking for volunteers to help with summer grass cutting, fall leaf raking, and winter snow shoveling! Great for youth groups and one-time large group projects.

Seasonal Projects Volunteers:

Throughout the year, we are all faced with the on-going challenge of maintaining our yards, walkways, and driveways because of the weather. These tasks can become difficult as we age, but are necessary for daily living. Overgrown grass invites unwanted pests to the home, wet leaves pose a serious risk for falls, and snow/ice can increase risk for falls as well as prevent daily meal delivery that our seniors may depend upon.

Older Adult Services uses volunteers, individually or in large groups, to provide assistance with these essential outdoor maintenance projects each season.

Phone: 412-345-7420
Email: ISOS@fswp.org

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Summer: Grass cutting and yard work
  • Fall: Leaf raking
  • Winter: Snow removal

Who Should Volunteer with our Seasonal Projects?

Anyone who...

  • Wants to help local older adults more easily face the challenges of harsh weather
  • Is willing to use his or her own equipment to cut grass, rake leaves, or shovel snow
  • Is looking to coordinate a group volunteer project (perfect for youth groups, corporate volunteer days, etc)
